High-purity Tellurium dioxide (TeO2) is widely used in the preparation of Tellurium dioxide single crystals, infrared acousto-optic devices, infrared window materials, electronic component materials, etc., and is an important chemical raw material. Tellurium dioxide is insoluble in water, but easily soluble in concentrated strong acids to form adducts and salts; it is also easily soluble in concentrated caustic alkali solutions to form tellurites.
Most traditional methods for preparing tellurium dioxide involve oxidizing elemental tellurium with nitric acid or hydrogen peroxide. Incomplete oxidation of elemental tellurium is common, and the prepared tellurium dioxide is usually still wrapped with elemental tellurium. Since a large amount of other reagents such as acids and alkalis are used in the oxidation of elemental tellurium and subsequent processes, new impurity elements will be introduced. The purity of the prepared tellurium dioxide is generally 3N or 4N, and it is difficult to prepare products with higher purity.
