Electro-optical Material , Lithium Niobate Powder LiNbO3 CAS 12031-63-9
Name: Lithium niobate Molecular formula: LiNbO3
CAS: 12031-63-9 Molecular weight: 147.85
Description: Lithium niobate crystal, referred to as LN, belongs to the trigonal system and the structure of ilmenite (distorted perovskite type). Lithium niobate is a ferroelectric crystal with Curie point of 1140℃, spontaneous polarization intensity of 50×10C/cm ', thermal conductivity of 0.056 (W/ cm·K). The deformed lithium niobate crystal has many properties such as piezoelectric, ferroelectric, photoelectric, nonlinear optics, thermoelectric and so on, and has photorefractive effect. Lithium niobate was prepared by Czochralski method with lithium carbonate and niobium pentoxide as raw materials. Lithium carbonate and niobium pentoxide were put into a platinum crucible and grown along (001) direction. In order to obtain high-quality colorless transparent cylinder, it is necessary to add an appropriate electric field when the temperature of the two end faces in two directions of crystal growth is slightly higher than Curie temperature, and then the crystal is cooled to room temperature to obtain lithium niobate crystal.

Uses: Lithium niobate crystal is one of the most widely used new inorganic materials. It is a good piezoelectric energy exchange material, ferroelectric material and electro-optical material. As an electro-optic material, lithium niobate plays an important role in optical communication. LN crystals doped with iron and other metal impurities can be used as holographic recording medium materials. It is also used in phase modulator, nonvolatile memory, second harmonic generator, phase grating modulator and large scale integrated optical system. It is also widely used in infrared detector, high frequency wide channel filter and so on.
