Cerium Boride CeB6 CAS 12008-02-5 For Electron Emission Cathode Material
Name: Cerium boride, Cerium hexaboride Molecular formula: CeB6
CAS: 12008-02-5 Molecular weight: 204.98
Description: Cerium hexaborate (CeB6, also known as cerium borate, sometimes called CeB) is an inorganic compound. Cerium hexaborate (CeB6) has CsCl structure. The difference is that B6 octahedral clusters occupy the position of Cl and Ce occupies the position of Cs. It is a kind of refractory ceramic material with low work function, which makes it one of the cathode materials with the highest electron emissivity known. At the same time, it is very stable in vacuum.

Uses: Cerium hexaborate is mainly used as the coating of hot cathode, or the hot cathode is directly composed of cerium hexaborate crystal. Cerium hexaborate is often used as some high current hot cathode coatings. Hexaboride has a lower work function, about 2.5ev, and it is resistant to cathodic pollution. The brightness of boride cathode is ten times that of tungsten cathode, and its lifetime is 10-15 times that of tungsten cathode. It is commonly used in electron microscope, microwave tube, electron beam etching, electron beam welding, X-ray tube and free electron laser.
